Last time, I tasted sake using Bordeaux wine glasses, whiskey tasting glasses, and sake cups.(choko, sakazuki and guinomi) As a by-product, I rediscovered the wonderfulness of them.
Sake cups have a wonderful appearance and texture. They are everyday items, but they also have artistic qualities. After all, tasteful sake cups make the time spent drinking sake even deeper and more fulfilling.
However, the wonderfulness that I rediscovered this time was their ease of use, I mean handy. I am well aware that wine glasses and tasting glasses are highly functional. They are also beautiful. However, they are by no means easy to use. In particular, the Bordeaux wine glasses I used last time were made so thin that you never know when they might break, and although they are suitable for parties, they are not very practical for everyday use. They also require careful cleaning and require a lot of effort to wipe down. They also take up a lot of space. It just doesn’t suit me.
In comparison, sake cups require no attention at all. They’re easy to wash and don’t take up much space. They also have the advantage of being portable. I bring my own handmade sake cup to my favorite izakaya. Every time I go to that izakaya, I choose one from my collection to suit my mood at the time. Having sake from my favorite sake cup makes me free from my everyday life. And it gives me a fulfilling time. It seems that sake cups are the best match for sake after all.
